CBR Review: Green Hornet Annual #1

I recently reviewed Green Hornet annual #1 for CBR and, in the process, wrote the following sentences: "Using flashbacks to a Green Hornet adventure from decades ago, the annual sets up a supporting character from the younger Reid’s past, Dante, his former trainer in kickboxing. Reid’s stopover at Dante’s gym, asking his old coach for help in getting back in shape to avenge his father’s death, is a necessary step before his ill-advised descent into the underground of Century City. Having another person, someone who seems to have some idea of what he’s talking about, tell Reid that he’s acting a fool adds to the tension of his quest. That Dante has his own past with the Green Hornet and Kato is a nice touch."

CBR Review: The Anchor #8

I recently reviewed The Anchor #8 for CBR and, in the process, wrote the following sentences: "With the final issue of the series, The Anchor wraps up in an open-ended fashion, allowing for a future return to the characters. It also provides a strong conclusion to the book’s current plot. With Clem’s descendent, Hofi, corrupted by the forces of Hell to the point where he had to kill her demonic self, he’s gone to Hell to reclaim her, and, to do so, he must team up with his own soul, which we’ve seen fighting against Satan’s armies for the series. This idea is a natural way to end the series and leads to a satisfying conclusion after some great demon-smashing action."

CBR Review: The Anchor #5

I recently reviewed The Anchor #5 for CBR and, in the process, wrote the following sentences: "In many ways, this issue follows the pattern of previous issues: Clem fights a monster, kills the monster, eats its heart, and gains some lost memories in the process. Throw in a few scenes in Hell and an appearance from the mysterious bandaged man that has a speech impediment of some sort and it’s a pretty typical issue of The Anchor. While the story advances, especially at the end, the series feels like it’s treading water for the most part. Hopefully, the plot twist at the end of the issue will shake things up a little."
