New Comics Should be Good blogger Alec Berry and I have come together once again, this time to discuss Amazing Spider-Man #700. I liked it more than Alec did. I think he and I trade back and forth liking things. What will happen next time? Who knows! CBR Review: Amazing Spider-Man #654.1

I recently reviewed Amazing Spider-Man #654.1 for CBR and, in the process, wrote the following sentences: "We get our first glimpses of Flash Thompson, Super Spy, as he uses the Venom symbiote to help take down an international terrorist group. Slott does a good job of playing up the idea that Flash would have a lot of fun with his new gig and that his handlers wouldn’t be so enthused about sending in an amateur like him, especially when he’s got an alien symbiote attached to him that has a strong craving for human flesh much of the time. The idea that he can only wear the symbiote for 48 hours or less and only on a maximum of 20 missions could lead to some interesting plot points further down the road. The dynamic set up here is a good one, albeit with few surprises. It’s pretty ‘by the book’ when it comes to this sort of story."

CBR Review: Age of Heroes #4

I recently reviewed Age of Heroes #4 for CBR and, in the process, wrote the following sentences: "The conclusion to the anthology series intended to shine some light on some of the lesser known or unseen corners of the Marvel universe as 'The Heroic Age' begins, concludes with an epilogue to Doomwar/a prologue to Klaws of the Panther, a story about Steve Rogers’s influence on the Inuit who found him in the block of ice, two pages of Zodiac being awesome, and one page on Cloud 9 whose point escapes me. It’s a very hodgepodge issue that offers a little bit for a variety of readers (emphasis on the word ‘little’), but none of it coheres together, making it questionable who the intended reader is."

CBR Review: Mighty Avengers #34

I recently reviewed Mighty Avengers #34 for CBR and, in the process, wrote the following sentences: "When people talk about events ruining the plans of writers, that’s something Marvel has been trying to avoid in the past few years. But it still comes through somewhat in Mighty Avengers #34, which offers a resolution of sorts to Loki’s posing as the Scarlet Witch in the title. The actions in this issue seem designed to conclude the plot while also not interfering with where Loki is in Siege. If this was the planned endpoint, I would be very surprised; It’s not a good way to conclude this subplot."

CBR Review: Dark Reign: The List -- Amazing Spider-Man #1

I recently reviewed Dark Reign: The List -- Amazing Spider-Man #1 for CBR and, in the process, wrote the following sentences: "It all comes down to this issue as Dark Reign: The List culminates in a confrontation between Norman Osborn and Spider-Man. A head-on fight between the two has been teased a few times before but, with Dark Reign winding down and the series of List one-shots meant to signify the first step in Osborn’s fall, this issue looked to be big. And, in some ways, it is a big issue, but the impact of it is a little too low key, which is fitting since The Siege is coming up as the true finale and this issue acts as a teaser well."
